About

The Setting

Rookery Meadow is an outdoor wedding venue and glamping site on the borders of Norfolk and Suffolk. Whether you celebrate your wedding with them or stay in their glamping cabin or yurt, you will have the whole venue to yourself, making it a truly unique way to enjoy your special day or a relaxing getaway.

Rookery Meadow is set in nine acres, offering you exclusive use of two acres of natural grassland lined with four ancient oak trees. The adjoining field boasts a private lake with its own island (yours too!). All set in a secluded spot in Suffolk, right on the Norfolk border.

The meadow is part of protective environmental scheme to manage the hedgerows, nurture the wildlife and encourage native fauna and flora to take root. Each season offers its own natural treasures, from the colourful wildflowers in spring to the summer waterlilies and the golden colours of autumn leaves.

One of the greatest benefits of holding your wedding at Rookery Meadow or joining them for a unique Suffolk glamping getaway, is the ability to enjoy the beautiful, tranquil environment. The elements of the meadow – the old oak trees, the wildflowers, the insects – are the showcase of the setting and have inspired us to share this special place.

Despite the rural location, Rookery Meadow is just six miles away from three market towns (Bungay, Halesworth and Harleston) all of which offer an abundance of accommodation. The nearest train station (Diss) is 20 minutes away. They are too rural for Uber(!) but can provide couples with a list of local taxi firms and accommodation options and ask them to ensure guests have planned their journey home in advance.

The Vibe

When the owners of Rookery Meadow (Rob & Gemma) became engaged there was no question about venues – for both of them, the best place they could think of celebrating their special day was Rookery Meadow. Nowhere else could offer the freedom to choose everything they wanted or match the beauty and tranquillity of the natural surroundings that an outdoor wedding offers.

Rob & Gemma loved having complete creative and financial control – choosing to spend their budget on the things they desperately wanted and saving on the things that didn’t matter quite so much. They also loved adding a personal and unique touch that reflected their relationship and met their needs. All the guests fell in love with Rookery Meadow that day. It was perfect (even though it rained!).

After their magical wedding experience, they decided to share their fairytale meadow by hosting a small number of outdoor weddings each year. In 2014 they became the first original true blank canvas wedding venue in East Anglia, giving couples the freedom and control they seek whether they dream of a tipi wedding, marquee wedding or festival wedding.

They know from their own experience that planning and creating your own wedding can be a big task, so when they set about creating Rookery Meadow as an outdoor wedding venue, they knew they could add something extra by being on hand to help with sourcing quotes, creating a day plan and running the event on the wedding day itself to ensure everything goes smoothly. They only host eight weddings a year to ensure couples receive as much of their time, attention and support as they need. With all this, Rookery Meadow makes for a truly unique, personal outdoor wedding venue in Norfolk and Suffolk.

At Rookery Meadow they don’t believe in corkage charges, peak rates or hidden costs. As your wedding is bespoke, how much you spend is entirely up to you, but their charge remains the same. They pride themselves on giving you the time, attention and commitment you need, as well as a beautiful setting and lots of complimentary extras, for a fixed rate.

Their ethos is to work with you to create the style of wedding that you want, whether that be a festival wedding in tipis, or a classic white wedding in a marquee. You may want to hold your ceremony under the oak trees, say your vows by the lake, or perhaps you are planning a church wedding and are seeking a wedding reception venue with a difference. The choice really is yours. Whatever your vision, hire of Rookery Meadow includes all the foundations you need to create something truly unique.
